About me
Sara Hackenberg is Professor of English at San Francisco State University and has published on penny fiction, popular transatlantic serial novels, early film serials, and Victorian visual culture. Her forthcoming monograph The Mysteries of Modern Life: Mystery Fiction, Popular Narrative, and the Politics of Vision traces the mystery genre from mid-century urban mysteries narratives to early cinema (Cambridge University Press, June 2026).
