About me
My name is Carolyn O. Schwartz and I have loved the novels of Charles Dickens, starting from
a very young age when my dad took me to see the David Lean film 'Great Expectations'
and then reading all his books. That love continued and has only been increased attending the
world wide Dickens Fellowship groups on Zoom.
I was born in New York City and grew up on Long Island.
I got my undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of
Nevada, Las Vegas, and later attended Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School as I was unsure of a
future path to take. And my dad who had remarkable judgement that I trusted had said: "At least you
will learn to type", and that skill that has proven very valuable in my life. Since I had chosen not to teach
and quickly realized that the world of business and working in an office was not for me, Wanting to do
something in healthcare, I returned to school and got my Masters in
Occupational Therapy from New York University. I thoroughly loved my career working as
an OTR in New York, Las Vegas, Oakland and Los Angeles. Currently I am currently unemployed and
enjoying my retired life. My main focus now seems to be DECLUTTERING my home. I watch many U Tube
'How To Declutter Quickly' tutorials, have read 'The Swedish Art of Death Cleaning' (twice),and am open
to all suggestions as to how others have accomplished this overwhelming task. I have two children
and a daughter in law who are nurses and in January I became a grandmother to a darling boy
named Julian. My passion is quilting and I have made more than 250 quilts since I started. I make them for
friends, social action groups, people who appear in a vision to me as 'needing a quilt' and for the Dickens
Universe Auction. I love to bake, do basic home repairs and garden, but living in a city where the daily summer
temperatures are in the three digits for months, gardening is a frustrating challenge, so I primarily continue to happily and
obsessively quilt. After attending the DU for many years, it has been my experience that I have met very interesting
attendees and would love to continue our campus chats throughout the year.
